WSU QB target doing evaluating of his own
May 19th, 2012
BARRY BOLTON
THE MAY EVALUATION period, when schools hit the road to evaluate potential prospects, is in full swing but for many of the quarterbacks in the 2013 recruiting cycle, so too is their own research and evaluation process. One QB smack in the middle of that is Phoenix’s Tyler Bruggman (6-2, 202). He is ranked 4 stars and the No. 20 prep QB prospect in the nation, and holds a Mike Leach offer.

ESPN: Michigan State’s Gary Harris may have immediate impact as part of ‘A’ recruiting class
May 19th, 2012
Michigan State Spartans Harris gives the Spartans a "premier athlete" on the perimeter as part of one of the conference's best recruiting classes.
Even though Keith Appling, Adreian Payne and hopefully Branden Dawson are among the returning players to Michigan State's basketball team, the Spartans are expected to rely on an incoming freshman class for some production, too. That should start with five-star prospect Gary Harris.
ESPN.com's Myron Medcalf lists Harris, a shooting guard who was Indiana's Mr. Basketball, as one of 10 freshmen who could make an immediate impact next season:
"Next year's Michigan State squad could top last season’s team. The bulk of Tom Izzo’s game plan went through Draymond Green. That scheme carried the Spartans to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament but proved detrimental in the NCAA tournament. Next year’s Spartans will be a more versatile crew with Harris' arrival. The five-star wing is a premier athlete and he’s gold on the break. Harris, the No. 11 prospect in the 2012 class, gives MSU a potent athlete on the perimeter."Harris isn't the only talented player in the Spartans' recruiting class, and that's been noticed by ESPN, too.
Recruiting analyst Reggie Rankin offered a team-by-team breakdown of Big Ten recruiting classes, and assigned grades. Michigan State was one of three schools to earn an "A" (Michigan and Indiana were the others).
Rankin writes:
"Coach Tom Izzo has reloaded again with high-level talent from the Midwest. Five-star shooting guard Gary Harris (Indianapolis/Hamilton Southeastern) can score with strong, athletic slashes and defend all three perimeter positions. Harris is joined by two four-star forwards in Kenny Kaminski (Medina, Ohio/Medina), who is a very good shooter with size and will excel in the Spartans' ball-screen offense, and Matt Costello (Linwood, Mich./Bay City Western), who can get it done in the high-post area and with his back to the basket. However, the most versatile player in Izzo's four-man group is four-star small forward Denzel Valentine (Lansing, Mich./Sexton), who is a matchup nightmare with his size, skill and feel for the game."Overall, ESPN.com puts Michigan State's class at No. 8 in the nation.

Michigan State slips behind Michigan in ESPN writer’s post-spring football Top 25
May 19th, 2012
Michigan State Spartans Spartans sit at No. 11 in Mark Schlabach's latest Top 25, while the Wolverines are now the "team to beat" in the Big Ten.
Guess Michigan State's spring football efforts didn't impress ESPN's Mark Schlabach. The Spartans were No. 9 in the writer's Top 25 back on Feb. 6, but dropped to No. 11 in his latest rankings released today.
Michigan State also got leapfrogged by rival Michigan, which is up to No. 9 from No. 14. Schlabach calls the Wolverines "the team to beat in the Big Ten in 2012."
As for the Spartans, Schlabach is concerned about the talent that departed:
"The Spartans might have lost as much star power as any team in the country after the 2011 season. Quarterback Kirk Cousins and most of his receiver corps are gone, along with tailback Edwin Baker and All-America defensive tackle Jerel Worthy. But MSU coach Mark Dantonio has built a solid program that is capable of reloading."Perhaps Schlabach was concerned about the sprained knee of starting quarterback Andrew Maxwell, which forced him to miss the spring game, but he didn't mention that.
Michigan and Michigan State are the highest ranked Big Ten teams. Wisconsin (No. 15), Ohio State (No. 17) and Nebraska (No. 24) also are included.
So are the Wolverines, coming off an 11-2 season and win in the Sugar Bowl, really the "team to beat" in the Big Ten? Alabama, Michigan's opening opponent, is No. 3.
Schlabach has LSU ranked No. 1.
